2004-01-10 22:35 A 55-year-old man suspected to be connected with the arson attack in Cheung Sha Wan last December leaving a man died and 10 others injured was arrested today (January 10). The arson took place at a leather factory in an industrial building at 781 Lai Chi Kok Road at about 8 pm on December 27, in which 11 men aged between 41 and 71 sustained burnt injuries. Among them, a 71-year-old man was certified dead in Queen Mary Hospital on December 30 last year and the case was then re-classified as murder. Nine other men were admitted in Prince of Wales Hospital, Queen Mary Hospital and Caritas Medical Centre respectively while the remaining 52-year-old man was discharged. Enquiries by the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon West (RCU/KW) revealed that the 55-year-old man, who was in connection with the attack, had fled to the Mainland on the same day of the incident. A request was made to the Mainland authorities with a view to tracking down the suspect who was subsequently located in Zhang Mutou today with the assistance from the Guangdong Public Security Department and the Dongguan Public Security Bureau. He was later returned to the Hong Kong Police at Huanggang Boundary Control Point. The 55-year-old man is being detained by the RCU/KW for further enquiries. |
