A 21-year-old man in connection with counterfeit credit card fraud was sentenced to imprisonment for 21 months at the District Court today (February 28).

The court heard that the 21-year-old man was arrested in Tsim Sha Tsui on June 24 last year after he was found in possession of two counterfeit credit cards and an identity card belonging to another person. It was later revealed that he purchased some goods worth about $900 from a supermarket by using one of the fake credit cards.

The man was arrested by the Police Commercial Crime Bureau in an operation mounted in Quarry Bay on September 14 last year while he was on bail. He was found possessing three fake credit cards and follow-up investigations showed that he just purchased moon cakes coupons amounting to $888 from a restaurant.

The 21-year-old man was charged with one count each of using a false instrument, possession of an identity card belonging to another and attempting to obtain property by deception together with four counts of possessing a false instrument.

He appeared at the District Court where the sentence was passed on him today.
