2002-10-23 07:33 Police have arrested 34 women and four men in an anti-vice operation mounted in Mong Kok yesterday (October 22). Police officers attached to the District Special Duty Squads of Mong Kok started the 14-hour operation from noon yesterday and raided various vice-related premises in the district. A total of 34 women aged 17 to 28 and four men aged 27 to 32 were apprehended in the operation. Of the women arrested, 12 Mainlanders and two Thais were arrested for breaching conditions of stay. One Mainlander is an overstayer, 16 are illegal immigrants and three others unlawful remaining in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, four men were arrested for displaying a signboard advertising prostitution. Police also removed 95 signboards advertising prostitution.All the arrested persons are still being detained for investigation. A Police spokesman reiterated that operations of such kind would be conducted on a regular basis to stem out any illegal vice-related activities. |
