A 45-year-old man pleaded guilty to sending offensive messages by telecommunications and was fined $1,000 in the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (December 4).

The courts heard that in June this year Police officers of the Crime Headquarters, Hong Kong Island Region made enquiries into a series of nuisance phone calls made to Chai Wan Fire Station.

Some of the fire officers revealed that a man had repeatedly made nuisance telephone calls to the fire station for five years.

Subsequently police investigations identified a suspect.

Between July 16 and August 20, a total of six nuisance calls were made to Chai Wan Fire Station, asking the officers answering the calls whether they had put on their underpants and then hanging up the phone.

On the morning of September 24, police officers of the Crime Headquarters, Hong Kong Island Region searched the suspect's home at North Point.

The suspect was summonsed for sending offensive messages by telecommunications under Section 20(a) of the Summary Offences Ordinance.

On December 4, the suspect appeared before the Eastern Magistrates' Courts.

He pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined $1,000.
