Case round up
Police strenuous efforts have led to the rescue of two kidnap victims and have
prevented the occurrence of more serious crimes. The two victims, an
80-year-old man and his driver, were dragged onto their own private car by two
men armed with pistol-like-objects at about 10 am this (January 30) morning at
Verbena Road in Shek Kip Mei when the 80-year-old man was about to go back to
office. A security guard spotted the incident and immediately made a report to
the Police. Upon receiving the report, Police swiftly deployed officers to
conduct observation at strategic locations throughout the territory with a view
to trace the subject vehicle. At about 11.30 am, the private car reached the
outside of Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station. Police officers spotted the vehicle.
At this juncture, the two culprits on board got off immediately and fired at
the officers. The officers gave chase to the duo who entered into Hillwood
Road. One of the culprits dropped his pistol whilst fleeing to the rear lane of
Hillwood Road. The other suspect boarded a taxi to escape. Police gave chase
and the taxi eventually stopped at the junction of Argyle Street and Nathan
Road where he managed to escape.During the whole incident, four Police
officers, including two Station Sergeants, an Auxiliary Sergeant and a
Sergeant, fired a total of 13 shots while the culprits were believed to have
fired at least four shots. After the 80-year-old man had been abducted, staff
at his office received a call from somebody demanding a ransom of $200,000. No
ransom was paid while the man and his driver suffered no injuries. A Station
Sergeant received a gunshot on his left hand and he is now admitted to the
Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. Police are now looking for two men,
aged in their twenties. Active investigations by the Regional Crime Unit of
Kowloon West are continuing and no effort will be spared to apprehend the
criminals involved.
