2004-01-06 17:18 Police seized 50 kilograms of firecrackers and arrested two men off Nim Wan in an operation last (January 5) night. A suspicious motorised wooden vessel was detected by the radar of a Police barge in Deep Bay at about 10.05 pm yesterday. Two Police vessels were then deployed to intercept the unlit targeted vessel which was seen heading towards Nim Wan. After a brief chase, the vessel was stopped with two Mainlanders and eight boxes of firecrackers weighting about 50 kilograms found on board. The seizure is worth about $20,000 in the local market. The two Mainland men, aged 38 and 55, were arrested for unauthorised entrance and possession of firework. They are still being detained for further enquiries. Police would continue to take vigorous enforcement actions to combat illegal discharge and possession of fireworks with the approach of the Lunar New Year holidays. |
