Dangerous Chemical Found : Hong Yip Street, Yuen Long

Police and Firemen are handling a case of suspected dangerous chemical found in Hong Yip Street, Yuen Long this (January 7) afternoon.

Police received a report at about 11.30 am that strong odd smell were emitting in the vicinity of Hong Yip street.

Police and firemen arrived at scene and discovered that about 48 cylinders of suspected Isocyanate were abandoned at the pavement on Hong Yip Street.

Leakage from 10 of the 48 cylinders was confirmed by firemen.

Police cordoned off the area and evacuated about 48 people from the nearby buildings to safe place.

No casualties or victims were reported in the incident.

The leaking cylinders were stabilized by firemen at 12. 07 pm. The chemical cylinders will be disposed of by the Environmental Protection Department.

At 1655 hrs on 2004-01-07, all cylinders & sand (being used for cleaning chemical at the scene) were all removed to Chemical Waste Treatment Centre, TYDIV for disposal.
