Police officers issued a total of 357 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPT) and 31 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island. The concluded at 7 pm today (August 20) and a total of 146 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island. A total of 275 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 82 for other traffic offences. Two hundred and twenty-nine pedestrians and 209 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences. Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users. Statistics revealed that a total of 1 768 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to July this year. Of them, 19.9 per cent and 73.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians and drivers respectively. |
