Established in 1974, Complaints Against Police Office (CAPO) will celebrate its 40th Anniversary this year. Committed to providing quality services, CAPO not only handles every complaint professionally, but also endeavours to improve and streamline the handling procedures.

The anniversary is an opportune time for CAPO, together with all Force members, to reminisce about the past and look at the way forward. To this end, a series of celebration events will be held between this month and November, including a Photo Exhibition, special coverage of the anniversary in the CAPO Annual Report 2013, a special series for Police Magazine about the complaints handling system and a CAPO Open Day.

The Photo Exhibition is the first event to be held from September 10 to November 29, with well-designed exhibition boards highlighting investigation and prevention of complaints.  There will be two sets of exhibition boards - one to be on display on the 5th floor lift lobby at Police Headquarters during the whole period, while the other set at Police Sports and Recreation Club (PSRC) and Regional Headquarters on a two-week rotational basis until November 29.

The exhibition boards, tracing the milestones of CAPO since its establishment, will present many precious photos and news clippings. It is hoped that through the exhibition, officers would get a better idea of the work of CAPO and the evolution of its two-tier complaints system.

The second wave of celebration of the 40th Anniversary will be publication of the CAPO Annual Report 2013. A special editorial in this year's Annual Review will highlight CAPO's achievements in the past 40 years.  Following publication of the Annual Report will be the Police Magazine. With a view to enhancing public understanding of police work and the roles of CAPO, a special series on the two-tier complaints investigation system will be broadcast on the Police Magazine in mid-October in co-operation with RTHK.

Finally, the 40th Anniversary celebration will conclude with the CAPO Open Day for Force members and their families at PSRC on November 29 to foster a better understanding among Force members of the work of CAPO, and to promote the culture of providing quality services.

Upholding the mission of "We Serve with Pride and Care", CAPO will continue to provide the best service to the public and deal with every complaint in an open and impartial manner.
