Tuen Mun District (TMDIST) conducted a joint exercise with Fire Services Department (FSD) and the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Corporation near Siu Hei Light Rail Station early on August 23 for strengthening inter-departmental coordination and fine tuning contingency plans for emergencies in the MTR network.

Taking part in the exercise were officers from Emergency Unit New Territories North (NTN), Traffic NTN, Traffic TMDIST, Patrol Sub-units and FSD, as well as MTR staff, totalling over 100.

The exercise simulated an incident in which a cyclist collided with a travelling Light Rail train and was pinned under the train together with the bike. The accident also resulted in a truck crashing against the train and some people getting hurt with three in a critical condition.

Shortly after the accident, police officers, firemen, ambulance officers and MTR staff converged at the scene. Firemen lifted the train to rescue the victim and sent him and other victims to hospital, while the other rescue parties evacuated passengers from the train. With good coordination, the exercise achieved the objective of beefing up the communication and coordination among the rescue parties.
