Among the officers taking part in a passing-out parade in Police College on September 6 was Police Constable (PC) Adnan Khan, who is the first "Project Gemstone" member to complete training in Police College. Born and brought up in Hong Kong and being proficient in English, Chinese and Urdu language, PC Khan said he was treated equally during training, and wished he could act as a "bridge" linking the Force, the public and the Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC).

Yau Tsim District rolled out "Project Gemstone" in February last year to help NEC Junior Police Call members brush up their knowledge of the Chinese language and the Force.

Aged 20 and coming from a Pakistani family, PC Khan passed out alongside over 100 Recruit Police Constables (RPC). He studied for the Yi Jin Diploma Programme after completing Secondary Six. Encouraged by his teacher, he joined "Project Gemstone" as a mentee, providing interpretation at activities for promoting integration of the NECs into the community. Finally, he made it to Police College as a RPC.

After his passing-out parade, PC Khan was posted to Tsim Sha Tsui Division. After work, he helps promote the Islamic culture and Urdu to his fellow officers. He has also committed himself to promoting racial harmony and the NEC community's understanding of the Force.
