The Juvenile Protection Section of Hong Kong Island Region (JPS HKI) arranged 12 juveniles under its guidance or that of the Youth Outreach to join the Correctional Services Department's (CSD) "Rehabilitation Pioneer Project", and visit the Lai Chi Rehabilitation Centre on Lantau Island on July 14.

The centre specialises in reforming and educating young offenders aged between 14 and under 21. During a tour of the centre, the participants looked at facilities and the lives of the young offenders at the centre, including compulsory lessons, mandatory work and controlled activities. In meeting and talking to an inmate, the participants came to realise the consequences of committing crime.

The CSD also offered a seminar to introduce the objectives of its "Rehabilitation Pioneer Project", correctional services and the criminal law system to handle young offenders.
