Lantau District (LTDIST) hosted a football tournament for primary and secondary school students as well as youths from Non-government Organisations (NGO) on August 29 in a bid to bring together youths with different ethnic backgrounds.

The tournament attracted 18 teams comprising 220 players with local, Indian, Pakistani, Nepalese, Filipino, Thai and other backgrounds. Following intense competition, the Po On Commercial Association Wan Ho Kan Primary School took the title of the female section, while the teams "NAAC Fire Dragon" and "Youth Touch for Idea (Junior)" were crowned secondary and primary school male section champions respectively.

Addressing the players, District Commander Pat Laidler described sport as a great way to engage young people, break down barriers and provide a positive outlet for their energy. Joining Mr Laidler in officiating at the event were the Vice-chairman of Islands District Council Chairman, Ms Chau Chuen-heung, an Islands District Fight Crime Committee member, Ms Connie Wong, and two LTDIST Junior Police Call Honorary Presidents, Mr Leung Siu-tong and Ms Keung Choi-yin. They applauded the tournament for strengthening the co-operation among schools, NGOs, Police and the community.
