Commissioner Lo Wai-chung attended two "Iftar" dinners last month for breaking the daily fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.  According to Muslim faith, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar is called Ramadan, during which Muslims will pray and fast intensively, refraining from eating and drinking from dawn till sunset.
 
Attending the "Iftar" dinner at the Islamic Union of Hong Kong in Wan Chai at the invitation of the Chairman of the Islamic Union, Mr A.R. Suffiad, on June 24, Mr Lo was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chau Kwok-leung and Wan Chai District Commander Cheng Yiu-mo.
 
There were over 90 distinguished guests, including the Consul-Generals and Consuls of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, State of Kuwait, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as other disciplined service officers. Welcoming the guests, Mr Suffiad said the gathering underscored the racial harmony in Hong Kong.
 
Mr Suffiad and his Vice-chairman, Bro Haji Saeed Uddin, both expressed appreciation for the good work of the Force in maintaining Hong Kong as one of the safest cities in the world and for the close bond among the different sectors of the community.
 
Mr Lo also attended the "Iftar" dinner at a hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui on June 29, together with Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung, Regional Commander Kowloon West Chung Siu-yeung and Yau Tsim District Commander Kwok Pak-chung.
 
Other distinguished guests included Secretary of Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, Chairperson of Equal Opportunities Commission, Mr Chow Yat-ngok, the Consul-Generals and Consuls of India, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the U.S.
 
The Chairperson of the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong, Mr Qamar Minhas, thanked the guests for attending the event and wished that Hong Kong would have a sustained racial harmony.
