DIST briefs stakeholders on public events

On June 11, Central District (CDIST), together with Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB), held a briefing session for community stakeholders on policing of the public events that would be held outside the Legislative Council later in the month.

The briefing aimed at enhancing mutual communication and understanding during the policing operation. Among those present at the briefing were District Officer (Central and Western), Miss Cheryl Chow, Chairman of the Central & Western District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC), Mr Cheung Tsun-yung, Central & Western District Council members, DFCC members and representatives from property management companies.

CDIST briefed the guests on the public events scheduled for the period from June14 to 19 and the impact that might arise. It also took the opportunity to thank the stakeholders for their support for the policing of the large-scale public events last year.

PPRB also briefed the property management companies on the matters they should be aware of and advised them to take measures and devise contingency plans for the safety of their premises and staff.
The guests appreciated the efforts the police had made and pledged to continue to support the police and adopt all the necessary measures to meet police operational needs.

WCHDIST holds another workshop on public event

Following the success of a workshop on public events held in January, Wan Chai District (WCHDIST) held another similar workshop for 30 inspectors on May 26 when Chief Inspectors (CIP) Lam Siu-wah and Lo Chi-kan, both from Regional Crime Unit Hong Kong Island, shared with the audience their crime-related skills and knowledge of handling public events.

CIP Lam explained the roles and responsibilities of a frontline supervisory officer in a public event in the hope officers would be more capable of assessing the situation on the spot. CIP Lo introduced the background, structure and functions of the Evidence Gathering Team (EGT), such as video capturing of offences and the different roles of the EGT and the local video team.  He also talked about how frontline officers can assist EGT in gathering evidence during a public event.
