Attending the General Committee Dinner of the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong (CMA) as a guest speaker on August 27, Commissioner Lo Wai-chung gave a talk on the crime situation in Hong Kong in the first-half of 2015 and the focuses of the Force in the years to come.

Before an audience of about 80 representatives from the industrial and commercial sectors, Mr Lo began his presentation by introducing the law and order situation and half-yearly crime figures.

Presenting the current situation of telephone deception and technology crime, Mr Lo said, "Prevention is the most effective way to combat telephone deception. Although the methods used by culprits may vary, their motive remains the same. To tackle telephone deception, one has to bear in mind that the perpetrator will ultimately ask for money or personal data. As long as we remain vigilant, the perpetrators would not stand any chance."

As regards technology crime, Mr Lo introduced the newly established Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau and offered tips on enhancing computer security.

Finally, he briefed the audience on the focuses of the Force in the coming years and appealed for their support. "To maintain law and order in this increasingly complicated society, besides our own efforts, we also need the community's support and trust. I sincerely hope you would support the police through any channel and join hands with us to ensure Hong Kong remains one of the safest societies in the world."

Following Mr Lo's presentation, CMA President, Dr Eddy Li, paid tribute to the Force for its efforts to maintain law and order and pledged to continue to support the Force.
