A summer football training programme for the offspring of Force members, "SmartKids", was kicked off on July 17, with Director of Personnel and Training Chiu Wai-yin, Chairman of the Police Football Club cum Senior Superintendent Yip Wan-lung and a sponsor for the event officiating at the opening ceremony. A total of 141 children aged between four and 12 enrolled in the seven-session programme.

Delivering his opening speech, Mr Yip said that "SmartKids" was aimed to offer young players an opportunity to take part in a team sport that emphasises on fitness, skills, discipline and above all, having fun and making good use of their summer holiday. He conveyed his gratitude to the volunteer coaches for running the programme.
