The Chief Executive (CE) Mrs Carrie Lam, who chairs the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), accompanied by Commissioner Siu Chak-yee and Deputy Commissioner (National Security) Lau Chi-wai, visited the National Security Department (NSD) of the Hong Kong Police Force on July 14. The CE reviewed with NSD officers the effectiveness of the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law (NSL) over the past year and looked forward to the work ahead.

The CE also visited the “NSmile Photo Booth” and the “Force National Security Book and Publication Corner” at the Police Headquarters. The CE noted that the Force, in addition to enforcing NSL, also attaches great importance to the internal publicity and education work with a view to enhancing the awareness of police officers in safeguarding national security.

The CE fully acknowledged the effective enforcement of NSL by the Force over the past year, noting that the officers have been taking up the responsibility of safeguarding national security steadfastly.

“Safeguarding national security is an honourable and vital duty. As the national security risks in the HKSAR have not been completely eradicated, all of us are required to continue to discharge our duty to safeguard national security with profound courage and full confidence,” the CE said.

The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the CE for her support to the Force, as well as her recognition of the Force’s contributions in safeguarding national security and maintaining social stability.
