On the evening of August 18, Tuen Mun District (TMDIST) received a missing person report of a 77-year-old man who suffers from dementia and lives in Tin Shui Wai. He was found missing after he went for a walk in Causeway Bay, so his family sought assistance from the Police.

Although the missing person was wearing a smart GPS wristband, the wristband ran out of battery and the last location recorded was Western Harbour Crossing. After obtaining more information from the informant, TMDIST officers believed that the elderly man had mistakenly taken a bus to Tuen Mun and planned to return to Tin Shui Wai by Light Rail but lost his way. As the elderly man had gone missing previously, his family was very worried about his safety. The officers raced against time to search for the elderly man at Light Rail stations and tried to contact him on the phone. Although the elderly man was unable to describe his location, the officers heard the broadcast announcement of the Light Rail train through the phone, and they believed that the train was heading towards Siu Hong Station. Finally, the officers found the elderly man in a Light Rail carriage at Siu Hong Station.

In order to express their appreciation, the elderly man’s family wrote a complimentary letter to the Force to praise the officers for their professionalism. The officers felt very encouraged for assisting the citizens successfully.

Officers of Tuen Mun District are praised for swiftly locating a missing elderly man.
