Peak Police Station Open Day

Due to operational commitment, Peak Police Station Open Day (2019-6-15 & 2019-6-16) will be cancelled.  Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

To celebrate the 175th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Police Force, with a history of 133 years, the Peak Police Station, which has been awarded a Grade 3 historic building, was selected as the Open Day venue for the Hong Kong Island Region and will be opened in June 2019.

The Peak Police Station, which was constructed in 1886, consists of four buildings, the main block, the barracks, the kitchen block and a former detention cell. It is a Victorian/Edwardian neoclassical colonial style. It was evaluated by the Antiquities Advisory Committee in 2010 as a Grade 3 historical building.

The exhibits include "Cannon" and "Model of the Peak". The former has a history of 200 years. It was excavated in 1960 and can contain nine shells. The "Model of the Peak" was made by officers of the Peak Police Station in 1953.

In addition, an old firefighting trolley will be exhibited to reveal that the early Peak Police Station officers needed to work concurrently as firefighting.

Moreover, police uniforms from different generations will be displayed, including old Chinese police uniforms, marine Police uniforms, woman police uniforms and traffic police uniforms etc. In terms of equipment, the vine shield and wooden baton used "sixty-seven riots" will also be exhibited.

The layout of the old Peak Commander's room will also be exhibited including the old safe, which was used in 1922, and the inspectors' chair etc.

On the Open Day, Police Band and Police Dog Unit will be arranged to perform and tour guide will be arrange at each pavilion to introduce the exhibits.

The Peak Police Station has long history, in order to enhance heritage conservation and facilities upkeep for the historic buildings, the Peak Police Station has specially cooperated with the Architectural Services Department to install the Heritage Information Modelling (HIM) to record the value of tangible and intangible heritage and to allow the visitors to have a better comprehension of the heritage archives.
