Recently, cases of suspected dog poisoning have been reported across the territory, all of which have been passed to the “Animal Crime Police Team” of respective Police Districts for professional investigation. In response to the reports, the AWP has forthwith launched the “AWP Fight Poisoning Campaign” to mobilise AWP Watchers to publicise the message of preventing cruelty to animals, remind dog owners on the points to note when taking their dogs out, and encourage the public to make timely report and pass on intelligence to the “Animal Crime Police Team” for in-depth analysis and follow-up.
In March to April 2021, the AWP, together with Regional Crime Prevention Offices and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals would be paying visits to popular pet gardens and dog-walking trails across the territory to conduct publicity and education work. The first event of the campaign has been held at Cyberport Waterfront Park in the afternoon on 14th March 2021. The Chairperson of the AWP - the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Information Systems) Ms. KWAN Chui-ching, Catherine has taken AWP Spokesdog Sunny out for the first time for public engagement, distributed leaflets and shared useful tips with the public. The Hong Kong Island Regional Crime Prevention Office also distributed souvenirs and balloons during the event, which were widely welcomed by dog owners and children.
If you are interested to participate in the campaign and meet the AWP Spokesdogs, please stay tuned for our activity updates on the HKP Facebook.
