To heighten public awareness of illegal bookmaking, drug driving and drink driving during the World Cup period, the Force has stepped up publicity by launching various campaigns and activities.

The Senior Police Call (SPC) joined forces with Organized Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB), Crime Prevention Bureau and the Police Community Relations Offices in five land regions in carrying out a territory-wide Anti-illegal Soccer Gambling Campaign between June 16 and 20, during which a publicity truck visited the districts of five land regions with SPC members, District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) members and local community leaders to distribute publicity leaflets to the public.

On June 16, the Chairman of the SPC Central Advisory Board (CAB), Assistant Commissioner Chung Siu-yeung, kicked off the campaign in front of SPC members from the police districts in New Territories North (NTN) Region, SPC CAB members, and representatives from co-organising units.

Speaking at the kick-off ceremony, Mr Chung pointed out the scourges of illegal soccer gambling. He appointed SPC members as "ambassadors" to promote anti-illegal soccer gambling.  At the end of the ceremony, the CAB members and guests showed their determination to fight illegal soccer gambling by tearing apart an anti-illegal soccer gambling gimmick football.

On June 6, Western District (WDIST) Commander Choy Wise and officers from the Road Safety Team of Traffic Hong Kong Island, together with Southern District Council (DC) member Mrs Chan Lee Pui-ying, Fight Crime Committee member Ms Chow Man-wai, community leaders, and over 20 WDIST SPC members, handed out flyers carrying the messages: "Don't participate in illegal gambling, the price is high" and "If you drink, don't drive" in the bars and eateries in Stanley.

Earlier on May 30, WDIST Deputy Commander Kan Kai-yan joined the Vice-chairman of Central and Western DC, Mr Chan Hok-fung, two council members, Mr Chan Choi-hi and Mr Cheung Kwok-kwan, community leaders, and over 10 WDIST SPC members in handing out anti-illegal soccer gambling flyers in the bars in WDIST.

 Kwun Tong District

On June 17, Kwun Tong District Commander Chau Cho-kei and Tseung Kwan O Divisional Commander Chan Kwok-kee, together with two Sai Kung DC members, Mr Au Ning-fat and Mr Chan Kuen-kwan, four DFCC members and elderly ambassadors, launched a joint promotion campaign in Kwun Tong to appeal to the public not to indulge in illegal soccer gambling and distribute publicity flyers.

Chief Superintendent Chau said, "We have committed ourselves to putting caring for the community into practice. We also actively promote co-operation with the public in preventing and fighting crime."

 Traffic Kowloon East

Officers of Traffic Kowloon East (T KE) launched an anti-drink driving publicity campaign at the bars and restaurants in Sai Kung, Sau Mau Ping, Kwun Tong and Wong Tai Sin on the evening and early morning of June 13 and 14. Besides distributing flyers and souvenirs, the officers also invited some patrons to take the breath test. Commenting on the evening visits, T KE Senior Superintendent Paul Grove said,  "The visits proved to be a highly positive exercise in terms of community engagement, and many customers were highly appreciative of the efforts of the Force."
