Acting Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, met 19 fight crime ambassadors at Government House on August 6 and wished them a fruitful and smooth trip to Australia.

She encouraged the ambassadors to make the most of the trip to broaden their horizons, introduce the latest developments in Hong Kong to Australian youths and exchange views on fighting crime with them.

The 19 young ambassadors are the winners of the secondary school, post secondary school and non-government organisation (including youth service groups and uniformed groups receiving subvention from the Home Affairs Bureau) categories of the "Hang Seng Bank - Help the Police Fight Youth Crime Competition 2014". They will leave for Australia on August 21 on an eight-day trip to visit police departments and youth organisations in Sydney and Melbourne.

Commending the fight crime ambassadors for their outstanding performances in the competition, Mrs Lam noted that they had shown brilliant leadership and analytical skills. She called on them to continue to participate in the fight against youth crimes and disseminate anti-drug, anti-theft and anti-violence messages to their peers in schools and community.

Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung joined the ambassadors in lunch before accompanying them to meet Mrs Lam.

The competition is a biennial event organised by the Police with sponsorship from Hang Seng Bank. With "Fight Crime Together" as a theme, this year's competition attracted a record of nearly 290 000 participants.

The contestants had gone through three phases of evaluation comprising a combination of web game, quiz, report on newspaper article, essay writing, project presentation on youth crimes, aptitude test and interview.
