The Police Community Relations Office of Kowloon East (PCRO KE) hosted a seminar on prevention of construction site theft for over 20 contractors and 50 worker representatives in the area of the Kai Tak Development on November 7.

The Kai Tak Development is a big project covering an area of over 320 hectares. Each day, more than 30 construction sites with a total of about 5 600 workers are in operation there.

PCRO KE invited representatives from the main contractors, foremen and workers to attend the seminar and exchanged views and shared experiences. It also conducted site inspection and offered advice on use of simple but cost-effective anti-burglary devices, marking and photographing of expensive equipment, installation of CCTV, strengthening of wire mesh and hoarding, and observance of access controls on the sites. It also advised the contractors to establish a security guard roster system as a security measure.

For maintaining close communication and co-operation, an instant messaging  group was set up for police to send the latest anti-crime information to contractors and workers.
