To kick off knowledge management (KM) activities in 2015, Police College organised two sessions of the "Senior Leaders Exit Debriefing (SLED) Series" and a session of the "Intellectual 40m Series" last month.

To capture and retain the valuable experiences of the Force's senior leaders, Police College launched the SLED Series to invite retiring directorate officers to share their "tacit knowledge".  The series is a very worthwhile project providing opportunities for serving police officers to capture knowledge and experience from retiring senior leaders and fulfilling the objectives of passing on the "Torch of Learning" and keeping the sparks of knowledge-sharing glowing.

The sixth session of the SLED was held on January 8 when former Tsuen Wan District Commander Steven Wordsworth had a heart-to-heart talk with over 20 officers at the rank of Superintendent and above.  He shared his views on the challenges for the Force, such as changes in Force culture, public communication strategy as well as police strategies for policing public events.  He also emphasised that healthy lifestyle and regular exercises are the keys to maintaining physical fitness.

In the seventh session of SLED held on January 15, former Assistant Commissioner  (Service Quality) Peter Morgan traced his police career with some fascinating historical photos. On top of bringing laughter, Mr Morgan also passed on positive energy to the audience.

Mr Morgan displayed his charm again in the session of the "Intellectual 40m Series" held during lunchtime on January 21. This series aims to arouse participants' intellectual curiosity and encourage them to take multi-dimensional approaches to address policing issues and enhance their ability of critical and lateral thinking.

With "Sense of Humour" as the theme of the session, Mr Morgan explored the meanings of humour with over 40 officers from various formations, including Director of Personnel and Training Chau Kwok-leung and Director of Police College Paul Lau. Mr Morgan said "humour" could be inborn or learned.  Thus, he demonstrated some simple "humour formulas".

Police College is looking forward to the new KM activities the newly appointed KM Champions are working on. Recruitment of Knowledge Management Ambassadors has been completed recently, with the number of applications exceeding those received in the last exercise.  Those wishing to know more about the Force KM or join the KM team may contact the Head of Research Centre in Police College, Superintendent Choi Tung-tsoi, at 2860-5770 or Senior Knowledge Management Officer, Mr Leung Ying-kin, at 2860-2399.
