Narcotics Bureau (NB) Chief Superintendent Chan Kin-hung led a five-member delegation to attend the "1st Cross-strait, Hong Kong and Macao Symposium on Drug Enforcement" held in Xining, Qinghai, on July 23.

The symposium brought together senior officials from the drug enforcement authorities in the Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao for promoting exchanges of intelligence and experience and establishing an enforcement network across the four jurisdictions.

The Mainland delegation was headed by Mr Liu Yuejin, Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Public Security, and the Macao delegation, by Mr Chau Wai-kuong, Director of Macao Judiciary Police. The Chief Prosecutor of Taiwan Public Prosecutors Office was present by invitation. In total, more than 30 delegates attended the symposium.

Reviewing their co-operation since 2014, the parties unanimously agreed that the co-operation had been fruitful and their intelligence exchange channels had been strengthened.

Discussions also focused on the current drug situation, trafficking trend, emerging modus operandi of sea trafficking, application of drug features analysis and measures to combat money laundering. The delegates recognised the importance of regular meetings among the four jurisdictions for enhancing drug enforcement and co-operation. All parties looked forward to expanding areas of co-operation, creating new modes of co-operation and stepping up efforts to combat cross-boundary drug trafficking and money laundering across the Strait.
