Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) has formed a Yau Ma Tei Outreaching Team under the district's "I love Yau Tsim" community participation programme. The volunteer members of the outreaching team, who include officers of the "Nepalese Task Force" and Nepalese leaders, will reach out to Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) youngsters on the streets to realise their needs and help them steer clear of crimes. Through outreaching visits, the team hopes to boost NEC youngsters' understanding of and trust in the police.

On December 12, the Yau Ma Tei Outreaching Team held the first outreaching event in Yau Ma Tei. On that day, seven members of the team visited the locations frequented by NEC, including King George V Memorial Park and Saigon Street Playground, and successfully got in touch with many young NEC street hangouts. The team advised them to attend Chinese language courses and introduced some community projects such as the GEMSTONE and Junior Police Call. Most of the youngsters had a lot of interaction with the team and came to understand police work better.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Commander of Yau Ma Tei Division Cheung Wai-wah and Mr Chan Siu-tong, Chairman of Yau Tsim Mong District Fight Crime Committee, presented letters to 17 police volunteers on December 4, appointing them to the division's "Nepalese Task Force". Mr Cheung and Mr Chan also briefed the appointees on the objectives and work of the task force.
