Four more police districts, Eastern, Kowloon City, Kwun Tong and Yuen Long, rolled out Winter Precaution publicity drives in January and February to protect life and property during the festival season.


EDIST


The "Anti-Phone and Online Deception Publicity Campaign", rolled out by Eastern District (EDIST) in March last year, has gathered momentum with the assistance of the Senior Police Call (SPC) Fight Crime Vigour publicity truck.


On January 26, Wan Chai District Councillor, Mr Lee Man-lung, Eastern District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) Vice-chairman, Mr Leung Chi-Kong and two members, Ms Li Lee and Mr Li Siu-yung, joined EDIST Commander Graham Mitchelmore, North Point Divisional Commander Wong Wai-sung, EDIST Police Community Relations Officer Ku Siu-fai in mounting an anti-phone deception and anti-naked chat blackmail publicity drive in Electric Road, Tin Hau.


Senior Inspector Ko Kwok-kuen, Commander of Patrol Sub-unit 4 of North Point Division briefed the public on the trend of phone deception and naked chat blackmail and elaborated on police action and community support for preventing such crimes.


The publicity drive concluded with SPC and Junior Police Call members and Non-ethnic Chinese Fight Crime Ambassadors accompanying the community leaders in distributing fliers to shopkeepers and passers-by.


KCDIST


Kowloon City District (KCDIST), in conjunction with KCDIST Road Safety Campaign Committee, staged the "Winter Precaution Fight Crime cum Road Safety Publicity Bus Parade" on January 5. Before the start of the bus parade, District Officer, Mr William Tsui, KCDIST Commander Cheung Ching and the Chairman of KCDIST Road Safety Campaign Committee, Mr Ho Chi-kai, officiated at an opening ceremony.


Speaking at the ceremony, Ms Cheung thanked the committee members and the local community for supporting and promoting crime prevention and road safety, and called on them to continue to work closely with the police to maintain a safe community and achieve the vision of "Zero accidents on the road".


Following the ceremony, Ms Cheung, the committee members, DFCC members and SPC members boarded an open-top bus and headed for various places in KCDIST for distributing anti-crime and road safety fliers to residents.


KTDIST


Kwun Tong District (KTDIST) kicked off its Winter Precaution Campaign in Tseung Kwan O Division on January 16 with wide community support. Pitching in for this publicity drive were the Chairman of Sai Kung DFCC, Dr Lam Ching-choi, two Sai Kung Distinct Councillors, Mr Wan Yuet-cheung and Mr Chau Yin-ming, and members of Sai Kung DFCC and KTDIST SPC.


The party headed for shopping malls in Tseung Kwan O to distribute anti-crime lucky bags and update residents on the modus operandi of deception. Dr Lam thanked KTDIST for its ongoing efforts to combat crimes, particularly deception and serious crimes. Many shopkeepers and residents shared his views.


YLDIST


On February 2, Yuen Long District (YLDIST) held a "Lunar New Year Couplets Writing and Fight Crime Promotion" with the support of Yuen Long DFCC and Home Affairs Department.


During the event, YLDIST Commander Wilson Fok, Chairman of Yuen Long DFCC, Mr Lee Yuet-man, Yuen Long District Assistant District Officer, Mr Wu Cheuk-wang, and SPC members wrote the couplets for citizens, wishing everyone a prosperous year of the Monkey. Meanwhile, YLDIST officers and officiating guests distributed crime prevention leaflets and souvenirs to the public in order to raise their crime prevention awareness.
