Commissioner Lo Wai-chung presented the Commissioner's Unit Commendation to officers of Crime Kowloon East Regional Headquarters (Crime KE Regional HQ) on June 29 in relation to a case of kidnap and robbery last year, with ex-Senior Superintendent of Crime KE Regional HQ Tsang Ching-fo receiving the trophy on behalf of the Unit. KE Regional Commander Duncan McCosh and other senior management officers of the Region also attended the ceremony to share the honour and joy with over 100 incumbent and former officers of the Unit.

Crime KE officers performed remarkably in the investigation of the kidnap and robbery case which involved a ransom of $28 million and jewellery worth of approximately $3 million in April last year. Not only had a victim of the case been released safely, but also the whole syndicate had been disbanded and a total of 10 suspects had been arrested in Hong Kong and the Mainland in a joint cross-boundary operation. Most of the jewellery and a sum of $27.89 million in ransom had eventually been recovered.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Lo praised Crime KE officers for their high level of professionalism, teamwork and dedication displayed in the detection of the case. This had maintained public confidence in the Force.

Meanwhile, Mr Lo reaffirmed the achievements of Crime KE Regional HQ in combating a series of organised and serious crimes, including the swift detection of a murder case at Kai Ching Estate to avoid further casualties; their remarkable performance in curbing telephone frauds, with the arrest of 224 persons and the disbandment of an international telephone deception syndicate in "Operation SILKMETRO" which was conducted jointly with the Mainland authorities in Indonesia; the sequential disruption of money laundering networks involving $1.8 billion in connection with the telephone deception cases in Hong Kong; and the recent detection of serial armed robberies targetting convenience stores across the territory.

Last but not least, Mr Lo wished Crime KE officers a smooth sail in the investigation of a Number 4 alarm fire at a mini-storage in Ngau Tau Kok.
