The Force has launched various projects for the Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) with an aim to enhancing the calibre of those who wish to join the Force. With the assistance of these projects, an Indian member of Project Gemstone, Gagandeep Singh, and a Nepalese mentee of Project Himalaya, Kusal Gurung, joined the Force recently.

Police Constable (PC) Gagandeep Singh is the sixth member of Project Gemstone who graduated from the Police College, and is the first Indian mentee of the project who was admitted to the Force. In early 2014, he joined Project Gemstone run by Yau Tsim District to improve his Chinese language proficiency and communication skills. He eventually made it to the Police College early this year and was posted to Tsim Sha Tsui Division in July. He hopes to act as a bridge between the Force, the public and the NEC community to strengthen communication.

On the other hand, Mr Gurung entered the Police College on August 15 for training. He has joined Project Himalaya, which is run by Yuen Long District (YLDIST), for two years. The project has enhanced his language proficiency, strengthened his fitness and turned him into a confident person. In this regard, he and his family presented a token of appreciation to YLDIST Commander Fok Lok-sang earlier to thank officers of the district for their support.
