As one of the initiatives to engage frontline officers, Deputy Commissioner (Management) (DCP MAN) Chau Kwok-leung visited Marine East Division (MEDIV) on October 20 to get an update of the daily work and challenges faced by frontline officers.

After being greeted by MEDIV Commander Justin Shave and officers of MEDIV, Mr Chau went on board Medium Patrol Launch 16 to go to an area off Town Island where a vessel was turned capsized two days ago. He was briefed on the subsequent search and rescue operation, during which 12 workmen were rescued.

Mr Chau proceeded to board Police Barge 3 to take a look at its equipment and accoutrements for combating smuggling and other criminal activities. Mr Chau then attended a briefing by Mr Shave on MEDIV's operational strategies, development and challenges.

Afterwards, Mr Chau met a group of officers ranging from Police Constables to Senior Inspectors to listen to their work difficulties and challenges. The visit drew the Force Management closer to frontline staff and effectively boosted staff morale.

On the other hand, MEDIV joined hands with the Marine Police Training School in running the Marine Police Tactical Application Course for officers. The course covers advanced training on navigation at speed, vessel pacing/boarding technique and tactical use of firearms. Through scenario exercises and training, officers could enhance their capability in manoeuvring Divisional Fast Pursuit Crafts and combat smuggling activities more effectively through strategic deployments.

Meanwhile, MEDIV organised a closing ceremony of the Sea Safety Day at Tui Min Hoi Base on October 14, during which Mr Shave told Sai Kung residents the latest marine accidents and crime figures. He thanked the stakeholders and officers for their concerted efforts in fighting crime.
