Marine Outer Waters District (MOWDIST) ran an exercise on December 20 to test their officers' abilities to cope with emergencies that may occur in the Guangdong Nuclear Power Station (GNPS) and Lingao Nuclear Power Station and to ensure that local officers can effectively carry out their duties in accordance with the Daya Bay Contingency Plan (DBCP).

The exercise simulated an outbreak of a hill fire which affected the safety level of the GNPS. As the DBCP was activated, MOWDIST cordoned off the nearby sea, conducted a search on Tung Ping Chau and in Mirs Bay and brought the stranded visitors to a shelter. MOWDIST Commander Bradley Wright commented that the exercise had enhanced the frontline officers' knowledge about the DBCP, and also paved the way for a large-scale exercise to be held by the Security Bureau later.

Earlier on November 30, MOWDIST organised a visit for Tuen Mun District Officer Ms Fung Ngar-wai, Chairman of Tuen Mun District Fight Crime Committee Mr Lee Hung-sham and other committee members to the base of Marine West Division (MWDIV). After Mr Wright briefed them on the Force's actions to curb illegal immigrants (IIs), other local officers explained some of the tactics adopted to combat illegal immigration. A fire drill and a rescue operation were performed to increase the visitors' understanding of the Marine Police's work. Mr Lee praised the Marine Police for their dedication, and presented appreciation letters to 16 officers of MWDIV for their contribution in arresting IIs.
