A total of 61 computer experts won the Cyber Security Professionals Awards (CSPA) 2016 at the Hong Kong Science Park on January 6 for their outstanding performance in safeguarding network security.

Co-organised by the Force, the Government Computer Emergency Response Team Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre, the CSPA Scheme was the first of its kind launched in Hong Kong to recognise individuals for their excellence, innovation and leadership in the cyber security field. The awardees' expertise covered the formulation and implementation of innovative cyber security policies, managing the risks of cyber threats, identification and tackling of cyber incidents, and dissemination of cyber security values to other members of their respective organisations.

Officiating at the ceremony were Secretary for Security Mr Lai Tung-kwok, Commissioner Lo Wai-chung, Government Chief Information Officer Mr Yeung Tak-bun, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Productivity Council Mrs Mak Tang Pik-yee, Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Mr Ng Tin-hoi, and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation Mrs Law Fan Chiu-fun.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lai said that Hong Kong went up in the regional threat ranking for Asia Pacific from the 58th place in 2014 to the seventh in 2016. Hence, the Force upgraded the Technology Crime Division to the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau two years ago with a mission to enhance their capability in combatting technology crimes and handling cyber security incidents.

In his closing remarks, Mr Lo said Hong Kong had to ensure that its cyber security measures keep pace with the ever-changing nature of cyber threats. It was crucial for all stakeholders to work closely to leverage on each other's resources, nurture talents and create effective and feasible cyber security solutions.

The CSPA Scheme effectively brought together cyber security professionals from various major sectors, including banking and finance, communications, public utilities and transportation, in Hong Kong to share their experience and good practices in tackling cyber threats.
