More than 120 officers took part in an exercise that was jointly mounted by the Disaster Victim Identification Unit (DVIU), the Casualty Enquiry Unit (CEU), CEU Reserve Team and the Support Group of the Major Incident Investigation and Disaster Support System at the Police Headquarters and the Police College on May 23. The exercise was conducted to strengthen the capabilities and co-ordination of the units involved in handling major incidents and disasters.

The exercise simulated a landing crash of a passenger plane at the airport with over 180 casualties reported. DVIU members were called to the scene in a bid to test the effectiveness of the new personal protection equipment, the procedures for casualty data collection and the flow of data transmission to the Casualty Enquiry Centre.

The Casualty Enquiry Centre, operated by CEU members coming from the Complaints Against Police Office with a Reserve Team formed by staff of the Police College, is responsible for handling public enquiries, entering casualty information into the Third Generation of the Major Incident Investigation and Disaster Support System for conducting victim identification. Joint exercises will continue to be held on a regular basis to enhance the Force's disaster contingency plans.
