A total of 309 outstanding young people won the Bronze Award of the Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP) 2017 on May 27 at a presentation ceremony run by the Police Operating Authority (POA).

They received certificates from Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Lau Yip-shing, Acting Director of Operations Patrick Hodson and the Chairman and the Vice-Chairman of HKAYP Award Council, Mr Lo Yan-lai and Mr Kwok Wing-leung, at the Police Sports and Recreation Club.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lau said that the HKAYP Scheme endeavoured to encourage young people to make good use of their leisure time for self-motivation and serving others. By achieving the requirements of different levels of the scheme, the youngsters would be inspired to take up challenges and cultivate perseverance to be groomed as youth leaders.

The HKAYP Scheme aims at motivating young people aged between 14 and 25 to build self-confidence and develop their potentials. The participants will be awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards by taking part in activities in the categories of skills, services, expedition, physical recreation and a residential project. In the past year, the POA had organised 14 training classes, which nurtured one gold awardee, 41 silver awardees and 309 bronze awardees.

Apart from the award presentation, Junior Police Call (JPC) members from Sham Shui Po District and Tai Po District performed rope skipping at the ceremony. A newly-appointed voluntary instructor was invited to share how she becomes an instructor. Under the guidance of her parents who have been voluntary instructors of POA for years, she undertook instructor training and becomes a voluntary instructor, too.
