More than 400 people attended the inauguration ceremony of the Anti-Telephone Deception Week, jointly organised by the Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East (RCPO KE), the Crime Prevention Bureau and the Police Public Relations Branch in the Police College on May 28.

Officiating at the ceremony was Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Lau Yip-shing. Other guests included Director of Crime and Security Au Chi-kwong, five Regional Commanders, Chairmen of 18 District Fight Crime Committees, District Commanders, Junior Police Call and Senior Police Call Presidents of various districts and other community dignitaries.

Apart from the presentation of awards to the winners of the Anti-Telephone Deception Poster and Slogan Design Competition, four artistes were appointed as Anti-Telephone Deception Ambassadors. RCPO KE outlined the upcoming activities of the week, which covered the distribution of new posters and stickers to over 3 000 restaurants, the broadcast of promotional videos via major means of transport and the dissemination of anti-telephone deception messages through the Housing Authority's half-yearly newsletter to tenants.
