The Emergency Unit of New Territories South (EU NTS) held a one-day intensive training codenamed "Exercise YELLOWFORTRESS" at NTS Regional Headquarters on June 9 with a view to enhancing the operational efficiency and competency of frontline commanders in handling major incidents.

Eighteen frontline commanders from NTS Region took part in the training, which was planned by Senior Superintendent (Operations) of NTS Ian Clark and Superintendent of EU NTS Choy Wai-sum. Firstly, Chief Inspector of EU NTS Wong Cham-sum briefed the attendees on the Major Incident Manual, highlighting ways of giving effective command in the frontline. Then the attendees learned about the operation of the new Mobile Command Unit and the usage of a Mobile Command Kit. Finally, they participated in a tabletop exercise to discuss how to handle various simulated natural disasters and major incidents.

The exercise helped to consolidate the attendee' knowledge in assessing the ever-changing circumstances of major incidents, deploying manpower and other resources as well as maintaining effective communication in meeting work challenges.
