To ensure the celebrative events in connection with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) are held in a safe, orderly and secure manner, the Operations Wing co-ordinated a Force-level tabletop exercise at the Police Headquarters on May 25.

The exercise aimed to enhance the Force's capabilities in dealing with unexpected incidents and to strengthen communication and co-ordination amongst Formations. The participants included about 200 representatives from six Regions, Regional Response Contingents, the Police Public Relations Branch, the Force Escort Group, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau, the Counter Terrorism Response Unit, the Force Search Unit and the Police Negotiation Cadre.

Taking into consideration the Force's experience in handling the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR and other security operations, simulated exercises of different unexpected incidents were run to test commanding officers' abilities of command and deployment, and prepare them for taking resolute action with legal justification. During the exercise, the officers actively participated in the discussion with fruitful outcomes.

Director of Operations Tang Ping-keung stressed that the Force has taken up the role to safeguard public safety, public order and security aspects in connection with the major events of the 20th anniversary. He is confident that the Force, with the support from a team of highly professional officers, is ready for the challenges ahead. Lastly, he thanked the officers for their contribution in preparing for the 20th Anniversary Operation.
