A record number of 250 mentors and mentees attended the Summer Day Camp of the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) at the Police College on August 6. Amongst the participants was Head Mentor cum Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Siu Chak-yee. The number of mentees joining the PMP this year reached 390, making another new record.

With the theme of "S.T.R.I.V.E. for excellence", the camp aimed to enhance the mentees' leadership ability, communication skills, team spirit and resilience to changes. Speaking at the event, Mr Siu hoped that the camp could foster ties between the mentors and mentees and enable them to develop a mutually respectful relationship.

Through competing in physical challenge and taking part in role-play and leadership exercises, the mentees increased their understanding of the pressure and challenges that officers are facing. The mentees were also encouraged to talk about their expectations of the PMP so that the Force could tailor-make more activities for them. In addition, 10 Probationary Inspectors gave a sharing session to let the mentees learn more about the training programme in the Police College.

The mentees said the event helped build up their aspiration to join the Force. On the other hand, as the PMP Job Attachment Programme will soon come to a close, the mentees will submit a report about their internship experience and the top three mentees will present their report at a prize presentation ceremony in October.
