Probationary Inspectors (PIs) of Course 615-617 took the lead in arranging a street run for about 50 runners of Youth RunOurCity on October 14 to engage the community, with the assistance of some Recruit Police Constables (RPCs).

As Youth RunOurCity has been organising running events for over 7 000 teenagers since 2013, the PIs found their work meaningful and, therefore, joined hands with them in organising the street run to cultivate a spirit of perseverance among the student runners.

To kick off the street run, Superintendent Andrew Gilhooly of Probationary Inspector Training Division of the School of Foundation Training said in his welcoming remarks that the Police College shared a common objective with the Youth RunOurCity in equipping youths with a "can-do" mindset, which included confidence, determination and perseverance. He hoped that this important mindset could be further developed among the youths through similar social engagements.

After warm up, some PIs and RPCs led the participants from 18 secondary schools for a five-kilometre run from the Police College to Deep Water Bay and then returned. Then the participants joined a guided tour to the RPC Barracks and participated in a foot drill. The activity ended with a sharing session by the police trainees about their training life with the student runners. Many students said the event offered them with an opportunity to better understand the Force and the police recruitment process.
