A table-top counter terrorism (CT) exercise codenamed "DAYTOWER" was conducted by the Emergency Unit of Kowloon West (EU KW) at their Regional Headquarters on November 3 with an aim to enhancing the resilience of police units concerned and strengthening communication between frontline officers and their respective units in tackling terror attacks.

Apart from EU KW, officers from Counter Terrorism Response Unit, Railway District, Kowloon Regional Command and Control Centre, Police Tactical Unit B Company (KW), Traffic KW, Hung Hum Division and Tsim Sha Tsui Division also took part in the event.

The exercise was mounted with reference to the recent terror attacks in other parts of the world. To enhance the realism of the scenarios, the participating units made use of pre-recorded video clips to emulate terrorists' modus operandi. The exercise simulated a car ramming into a crowd of people during the Hong Kong Cyclothon, followed by terrorists stabbing some people with knives and taking some others hostage. All participating units immediately took tactical interventions to neutralise the threat.

The participants said that the exercise offered them a good opportunity to practise the CT response procedures and gave them a confidence boost in facing the challenge of terrorist incidents.
