In view of the complexities of policing public events, the Police Public Engagement Office of the Major Incidents Bureau (MIB) ran a Public Events Engagement Course, the first of its kind, between November 1 and 3 to enhance frontline officers' skills in engaging organisers and participants of such events.

A professional mediator, Dr Chiu Ka-yin, was invited as a guest speaker to explain mediation and communication skills. Over 20 frontline officers from all Regions attended the course.

At the end of the course, Senior Superintendent of MIB Peter Whitton presented copies of a certificate of attendance to the participants and thanked them for their efforts in policing public events. All the participants considered that the course was a good learning experience as it was highly relevant to their daily work. Similar courses would be held on a quarterly basis.
