A group of three officers, led by Chief Inspector Jonathan Close, attended a course hosted by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) from October 30 to November 3 in Canberra, Australia on counter terrorism and management of major incidents exercises.

Due to terrorist threats around the world, the Force must fully prepare for any major incident that may affect Hong Kong. A crucial part of this preparation is conducting exercises with clear and measurable objectives to test the Force's  responsiveness for a major incident.

During the course, the AFP affirmed the Hong Kong Police Force's (HKPF's) existing practice of conducting exercises when compared with international benchmarking. On the other hand, they highlighted the need for establishing a standardised exercise programme in the Force. In this regard, the Exercise and Audit Division and Counter Terrorism and Internal Security Division of the Operations Wing will jointly roll out workshops to enhance the capability of the related officers. Details of the workshops will be announced in due course.
