A total of 236 police volunteers and their family members offered supportive services to the participants of Oxfam Trailwalker at Check Point 7 (CP7) and the Finish Point of the MacLehose Trail from November 17 to 19. This was one of the largest fundraising hiking events in Hong Kong, attracting the participation of more than 5 200 hikers this year.

Comprising officers from the Police Volunteer Services Corps and Hong Kong Police Information and Communications Technology Society, the police volunteers worked day and night in four shifts to carry out command duties of CP7, taking charge of crowd and vehicle management, computer registration, search and rescue work, gateway and route signs, radio communication and food supply.

CP7 was located at Lead Mine Pass of Shing Mun Reservoir. The police volunteers had to look after the safety of the hikers on a section of the trail measuring 10 kilometres from Shing Mun Reservoir to Tai Mo Shan. Many hikers were very tired when they reached CP7. The police volunteers planned well ahead of the event in a bid to ensure the safety of the participants and get prepared to deal with any unexpected incidents.

Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Lau Yip-shing arrived at CP7 to lend support to the volunteer team. He expressed gratitude to the police volunteers and their families for their devotion to this meaningful event.
