Over 300 primary and secondary school students cheered for each other in the 2017 Smart Rider Cycling Race, which was co-organised by Shatin District (STDIST) and STDIST Junior Police Call (JPC) on November 12 at Yuen Wo Road. The five-kilometre race was one of the highlights of "Sha Tin in Motion" to mark the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

After hitting the Guinness World Record in 2016 for running the largest cycling safety lesson, most of the young participants have further brushed up their cycling skills through the "Smart Rider Plus" training provided by STDIST JPC. They showcased safe riding skills in the race. Finally, 24 cyclists and 10 schools received individual and group trophies respectively.

The race was inaugurated by District Officer (Sha Tin) Ms Chan Yuen-man, Regional Commander of New Territories South Lui Hon-kwok, Commander of STDIST Kwan Chui-ching, Vice-President of Hong Kong Cycling Association Mr Wilfred Ng and other community leaders. The event promoted safe cycling messages in the community and ended in a good note.
