The Crime Prevention Bureau (CPB) ran an anti-deception seminar titled "What is False Can Never Be True" on November 22 at the Police Headquarters to raise the fraud awareness of some community sectors. About 200 management representatives of the retail, banking, hotel, security, insurance and money services sectors attended the event.

The seminar comprised five sessions. Guests from the payment card industry briefed the participants on counterfeit credit cards and the related crimes. Staff from the Immigration Department shared the clues on how to verify the authenticity of Smart Hong Kong Identity Cards. Experts from the Commercial Crime Bureau explained how to identify counterfeit banknotes whilst officers of the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau illustrated the latest trend of cyber crime and effective prevention measures. Finally, representatives from the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre covered the modus operandi of deception and gave prevention recommendations.

Through this seminar, the CPB enhanced the knowledge of scam prevention of the managerial participants, who would then disseminate the messages to frontline personnel. This top-down approach could achieve better publicity effects to protect their company's and their clients' property.
