Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Siu Chak-yee led representatives of police volunteers and the secretariat staff of Police Volunteer Services Corps to attend the "Life Buddies" Mentoring Scheme 2017/18 launch ceremony at the Central Government Offices on November 4, 2017.

The scheme was launched by the Commission on Poverty in 2016/17 to promote a mentoring culture in the community. It mobilised volunteers from different background to provide career guidance to students through a range of activities.

Under Mr Siu's leadership, 50 police volunteers would serve as "Life Buddies" in 2017/18 for students in five schools, namely Caritas Fanling Chan Chun Ha Secondary School, the Islamic Kasim Tuet Memorial College, Confucian Tai Shing Ho Kwok Pui Chun College, The Yuen Yuen Institute MFBM Nei Ming Chan Lui Chung Tak Memorial College and Chung Sing Benevolent Society Mrs Aw Boon Haw Secondary School.

Last academic year, a total of 58 secondary schools participated in the territory-wide scheme, with police volunteers forming mentor teams to encourage students of eight schools to develop a vision of careers and help them move upwards in society.
