Marine policing & handling of critical incidents

Some 40 frontline officers attended a sharing session on marine policing given by a retired Senior Inspector, Ng Yun-fat, at the Marine Regional Headquarters on December 20, 2017. The event was organised by the Marine Policing Knowledge Management (KM) team under the Experienced Officers Exit Debriefing Series.

Having served in the Marine Police Training School and the Trial and Maintenance Unit of Marine Region, Mr Ng spoke on his 36-plus years of experience in maritime policing and practical seamanship. He highlighted the importance of driving in safe speed, which would be crucial in upholding maritime professionalism and prevention of accidents. The participants were inspired a lot by his sharing.

Meanwhile, a Knowledge Café on "The Triangular Relationship in Critical Incident" attracted the participation of about 50 officers at the Police Headquarters on November 28. Two experienced guest speakers, Deputy Head of the Police Negotiation Cadre (PNC) Liauw Ka-kei and Commander of Ngau Tau Kok Division Chan Lai-man shared their experience in negotiating with vulnerable subjects in critical incidents, and the importance of co-operation between the PNC and frontline officers to deal with the situation. More importantly, they shared the "dos and don'ts" in a crisis.

Their sharing sparked off a discussion with the audience. The knowledge gained by the participants had shed light on ways to handle similar incidents. All Force members can view the presentation video at the Wisdom Buffet under the KM Portal.
