Intellectual 40m Series - Communication with visually impaired

In line with the Government's approach of providing barrier-free facilities and services for people in need, the Police College invited Mr Alex Chan of the Hong Kong Blind Union to share with over 60 officers the needs of the visually impaired at a session of the Intellectual 40m Series on February 9.

Through sharing his personal experience as a blind person and his encounter with police officers, Mr Chan proposed ways to better communicate with the visually impaired. He also introduced to the audience a mobile application, "Be My Eyes", to help the visually impaired to get assistance from sighted volunteers.

Being an optimistic person, Mr Chan filled the sharing session with joy. The constructive discussion between the attendees and Mr Chan helped build trust between the Force and the visually impaired, and enabled the attendees to gain a better understanding of their needs.
