The Police College made arrangements for 60 Recruit Police Constables (RPCs) to take part in the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Marathon 2018 at the Fire and Ambulance Services Academy in Tseung Kwan O on February 3. The event was organised by the Emergency Medicine Unit of The University of Hong Kong in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record in CPR relay.

Some 3 000 participants from the Force, the Fire Services Department, medical associations and secondary schools participated in the event. The RPCs, for example, took turns to perform CPR on a dummy at a rhythm of 150 compressions per person.

Apart from raising community awareness of the importance of CPR, the event enabled the RPCs to apply what they learned in the first aid training programme. It also provided an opportunity for the RPCs to exchange experience on the application of CPR with other participants. The RPCs said that the marathon was very meaningful and they looked forward to participating similar events to promote a positive image of the Force.
